Jeonghan, Kim
Early Career Geotechnical Engineer
What is your role, and how long have you been at MGT?
I am an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer, and it has been only 4 months at MGT. I can’t wait to see what’s next in store for me!
What sparked your interest in this field?
Since I was very young, interactions between us and nature often piqued my curiosity. Applied geology and engineering geology during my undergraduate time introduced me to insights which filled my cup. My postgraduate course Master of Mining Engineering at WASM consolidated my thoughts in this field.
Share a memorable project story.
Driving all along the Goldfield Highway for a sampling trip with Lyndell meant a lot to me.
What is a quote that has stuck with you?
“Garbage in, garbage out.”
Proper scope and constraint setup are the keys to the effective and efficient decision making in terms of data analysis. To reach the appropriate approach towards data, they should be based on great understandings of the field, or the data will turn into nothing more than garbage.
What advice would you give to aspiring engineering geologists?
Your core samples of the rock might already have told you the answer, while you have missed it. This could be quicker than your robust methods, but not as accurate and helpful.
Who in your team would you like to give a shout-out to?
Thanks to Lyndell, he has awakened my potentials so far here at MGT.

Walks along the Swan River.
Do you have a favourite rock/rock formation/mineral/element?
