
BSc Geology
Gavin graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Geology and immediately went to work in Newmont’s underground Tanami Mine. Gavin has over 15 years’ industry experience across Australia, UK, Canada, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, undertaking projects in drilling, mapping, mining, quarrying and civil construction. He’s accumulated a wide range of skills, such as team leadership, commercial and contractor management, consultant relationships and health & safety leadership.
Gavin’s mining experience includes open cut & underground hard rock mining, in gold and iron ore deposits, as well as geotechnical investigations for tailings, water storage and milling facility construction.
His experience includes:
- Conducting geotechnical inspections of underground and open pit development and designing ground support
- Assessments of ground conditions and rock mass characteristics
- Data collection of geotechnical and geological information
- 3D modelling software
- Planning and execution of surface and underground drilling of all types
- GIS Software
- Geotechnical site investigations
- Leadership of technical teams; budgeting, project management, establishing technical systems of work and data streams
